| DAVID WECHSLER, Brooklyn-born flutist, is the founder and Music Director of The OMNI Ensemble. He is currently the principal flute and personnel manager of the Connecticut Grand Opera, the second flutist of the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the third flute/piccolo of the Dance Theater of Harlem Orchestra. David has played principal flute and various other chairs with The New Jersey Symphony, The American Symphony, The American Composers Orchestra, The New York City Opera, The New York Grand Opera, The Westchester Philharmonic, The Virginia Opera Association.. In the commercial field, he was the principal flutist in the recent run King Lear at the Public Theater starring Kevin Kline, the 1998 run of Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby, and is a substitute flutist at many Broadway shows, including the bamboo flute chairs at both The Lion King and Les Miserables.. David is fairly active in the recording field as well, playing on film dates, jingles and some multi-media sessions. As an electronic musician and composer, he performs on the MIDI wind controller and has written numerous works for live electronics. In 1988, Dancewave Inc. commissioned him to write an original score for the ballet Shed which was performed live by OMNI during Dancewave Inc.'s Marymount College season in Manhattan. David holds degrees from Brooklyn College, SUNY at Stony Brook, and is currently a Doctoral candidate at CUNY Graduate Center. David is on the faculty of the CUNY College of Staten Island and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. | ||||||||||||||||
